returning to health

Well… a lot has happened since I wrote my last blog post: the premiere of my work for Ursula’s End, a studio recording of the work, summer holidays, my daughter Naomi’s bout with pneumonia, and my hospitalization from a combination of multiple blood clots and pneumonia! I had a six day stay at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which was no fun at all.

The upshot of my hospitalization was that the pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) that I suffered from 5 years ago was only the first salvo in a disease that I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my days. At this point, the tests show that I lack a certain protein that helps to keep my blood from clotting. Without medication, this would be a life-threatening disease, but with modern medical intervention, the disease is mostly a nuisance that must be monitored every year or so.

<sigh>

I’m doing well–although after I was released from the hospital on June 2, my lungs were still very weak from the pneumonia that I was also suffering from. The result of that weakness was that I contracted a viral infection in my lungs that took another 2-3 weeks to heal. Luckily, I’m back to my old self now, and I’ve got lots and lots of plans to write music and to write here on the blog a bit.

Soon, I’ll write some thoughts about the premiere of my work for David and Holly Nadal and upcoming concerts.

Please be patient with me as I get my house back in order. For those who might worry, please know that I am well and that my doctors say that my life will return to normal and that my prognosis is good. I can return to running and to scuba diving and doing all the things I love to do.

Check back again soon! I hope to have a new post written within a week or so.
